Tutorial basico (Masillas y herramientas)

Hola, hace unas semanas me ofrecí a ayudar a los amigos de Fanhammer con su nueva web. Les comenté que se me da bien el tema de las peanas y las escenografías y me han pedido, que si podría hacer unos tutoriales sobre esto mismo, para mostrar en la web. Bueno aquí empezamos una serie de tutoriales rapiditos, para hacer ver mejor, las miniaturas que tanto nos gustan.
Lo primero, me presento a vosotros, podéis llamarme YGON, soy prácticamente nuevo en el mundo de las miniaturas pero siempre se me ha dado bien trabajar con las manos.
Sin dilatarme mas en esto, empezamos con los materiales que uso (ojo, hay infinidad de materiales, herramientas y "cosas" que se pueden usar en sustitución a algunas que uso).
La Masilla:
Hay muchas marcas diferentes, desde la masilla verde (tan querida y odiada por aquellos que hacemos estos trabajos), como diferentes tipos de masillas, arcillas y bicomponentes que secan al aire.
Yo suelo usar Premol, de la marca Sculpey, y la propia Sculpey.

Hi, a few weeks ago I offer to help friends Fanhammer with the new website. I told them that I'm good at the subject of the bases and the scenery and they asked me if I could make some tutorials about it, to show on the web. Well here we begin a series of quickies tutorials, to make our miniatures look nicer.
First, let me introduce myself, you can call me Ygon, I'm pretty new to the world of miniatures but always work good with my hands.
No dilate more on this, we start with the materials I use (hey, there are plenty of materials, tools and "things" that can be used to replace some of  the ones I use).
Putty:
There are many different brands, from Green Stuff (beloved and hated by those who do this work), as different types of putties, clays and bicomponent air dried.
I usually use Premol, the Sculpey brand, and Sculpey itself.

Se trata de una masilla polimérica que fragua (endurece) al horno (20minutos a 130ºC). no nos preocuparemos en mantener la superficie de trabajo húmeda, ni las manos y mucho menos las herramientas. Así mismo suelen haber ofertillas que pillo por Ebay de diferentes colores de este tipo de masilla, mas barata.

Is a polymeric clay which set (harden) in the oven (130 ° C 20min). Don't need to worry about keep the working surface wet, or our hands, much less the tools. I use to look on Ebay bargains of different colors like this type of clay, really cheap.

Para trabajarla y dejarla lista para el horno, suelo usar un trozo de cartón (duro a ser posible, pero si no es así, poco importa), papel de plata o de aluminio,pegamento de barra (esto último no es obligatorio).

To work it and make it ready for the oven, I usually use a piece of cardboard (hard if is possible, but if not, doesn't matter), kitchen foil, glue stick (is not required but useful).

Envolvemos el cartón con el papel de plata (ayudándonos del pegamento, si quereis).

We wrap the cardboard with the foil (helping with glue, if you want).

Bueno, ya tenemos la bandeja para trabajar, y de paso, hornear el trabajo final.
Lo siguiente sera crear la superficie de trabajo con la masilla y un rodillo. Hay rodillos acrílicos de metraquilato como este:

Well, we have our work tray, and incidentally, used to bake the final work.
The following will create the work surface and a roller. There are acrylic methacrylate rollers like this:

O, podemos usar la marca blanca, un rotulador de los gruesos.

Or we can use a thick marker pen like this one.

Bien, tras coger un trozo de masilla y ablandarlo un poco con las manos, haremos una bola:

Well, after taking a piece of clay and soften it a bit with your hands, we'll make a ball:

La aplanaremos con el rodillo y cortaremos los bordes que sobresalgan.

We'll expanded it with the roller and cut the edges.

Para cortar los bordes yo uso una cuchilla de cutter, a la que he hecho un mango usando un trozo de listón de madera pegado con cola de contacto, tal que así:

To cut the edges I use a blade cutter, I done a handle using a piece of wood strip glued, like this:

Bueno, una vez preparada la superficie, toca pensar que tipo de peana vamos a hacer. Se me ocurre que una peana simulando una calle adoquinada, pero necesitaremos primero algo para hacer los adoquines. La ultima vez que fui a un todo a 100 compre un juego de pinceles de estos malos precisamente para hacerme un par de útiles. En este caso le quitamos los pelos de un tirón (usando unos alicates planos) y nos quedara algo como esto:

Well, once prepared the working surface, we'll need to think what kind of base we will do. It strikes me that a base simulating a cobbled street, but you first need something to make the cobblestones. The last time I went to 99p. Usando los alicates redondos vamos dándole forma hasta conseguir algo parecido a un rectángulo (no tiene que quedar perfecto, ahí radica el detalle).

Using round shaping pliers up we get something like a rectangle (don't has to be perfect, therein lies the detail).

Lijamos un poco el resultado y probamos en un trozo de masilla.

We sand a bit and test the results on a piece of clay.

Me gusta como va quedando. El juego de pinceles me da para hacer unos cuantos mas, así que intentare hacer algunos diferentes entre si.

I like it. The set of brushes gives me to make a few more, so I'll try to do some differents shapes.

Listos, ahora vamos a la masilla que anteriormente habíamos preparado, y empezamos a experimentar con ella, mirar este ejemplo.

Ready, now let the previously prepared clay we had, and start experimenting with it, look at this example.

Use la cuchilla para marcarme una serie de lineas para ir siguiéndolas y que quedara, mas o menos, rectas y de ahí empece el dibujo.
Para cortar, usamos un cortador de galletas a la medida requerida, estos cortadores los he encontrado en ebay, no están muy caros y son una buena inversión.

I use the knife to mark a series of tracing lines to follow them and make a straight ish work. Then I start to "draw" with the Brush Tool.
To cut the piece, I use a cookie cutter at the required measure, these cutters have found them on eBay, are not very expensive and are a good investment.

Usare el de 25mm, una vez sobre la zona de corte, presionamos y hacemos girar el cortador y lo retiramos.

I will use the 25mm cutter, once on the cutting zone, pressed, spin the cutter and retire it.

Retiramos la parte de la masilla que no vayamos a usar y examinamos la pieza.

We removed part of the clay that we will not use and look the result.

Yo la veo bien, ya esta lista para el horno, recordad 20 minutos a 130ºC, habiendo precalentado el horno 15 minutos antes.

Nota:
Hay infinidad de herramientas para trabajar la masilla:

No es mas que un palo de helado al que saque punta por un lado y aplane con el cutter por el otro, lijé ambos lados y me quedo esto como resultado.

Is just a popsicle stick with a pointy side and another flattened with a cutter, sanded both sides and done.
